It does this with two active ingredients that attack the nervous system of the pests, thereby killing them, and preventing their eggs from hatching. This stops the reproduction cycle and keeps your dog safe from the ravages of lice and fleas. Each 4-pack of Advantage II contains treatment for 4 months of uninterrupted protection. This particular preparation is specially formulated for dogs between 21 and 55 pounds.

How it works:
The first active ingredient is imidacloprid, which acts on the nervous system of the flea to cause paralysis and subsequent death. Within 12 hours of application, 98-100 percent of fleas are dead. The second active ingredient, pyriproxyfen, is an insect growth regulator. Once a female flea lays her eggs, pyriproxyfen works to prevent the eggs from hatching, ending the flea life cycle.
