Mort Künstler, was born in New York in 1927. As most great artist do, he demonstrated great talent at an early age. He studied at Brooklyn College and Pratt Institute. One of his first jobs was with the National Geographic Magazine, given assignments of historical subjects which grew his interest in history. By the 1970's serious collectors were purchasing his works. In 1982, CBS commissioned him to do a painting for a mini-series, "The Blue and the Gray" that experience pushed his interests towards Civil War era paintings. Titled: "The High Water Mark", the painting was unveiled at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum on July 2, 1988 in celebration of the 125th anniversary of the battle. In 2001, following the 9-11 attack on the USA, he contributed one of his most popular limited edition prints "Old Glory" to the American Red Cross for a fund-raiser. Today he is 95 years old and is recognized as “the premier historical artist in America".
