Bringing Elite Shoulder Care to Northeast Oklahoma

Shoulder pain can affect nearly every part of your day—from getting dressed and lifting your grandchildren to serving a tennis ball or throwing the winning pitch. Whether your pain developed over time or happened during a game, having the right specialist can make all the difference.

That’s why OSU Medicine is excited to welcome Dr. Jake Checketts, an orthopedic surgeon dedicated to shoulder and elbow care.

“Every patient deserves the same compassion and attention I would give a member of my own family,” Dr. Checketts says. “My goal is to help people understand their condition, know their options and feel confident in every decision we make together.”

What does “elite shoulder care” mean?

Dr. Checketts completed advanced fellowship training focused entirely on shoulder and elbow surgery at one of the nation’s premier shoulder programs. That specialized experience means patients in Northeast Oklahoma now have access to advanced expertise for both routine and complex shoulder conditions—close to home.

He treats patients of all ages with conditions including:

  • Rotator cuff tears
  • Shoulder arthritis
  • Shoulder instability and dislocations
  • Sports-related shoulder injuries
  • Shoulder and upper extremity fractures
  • Complex shoulder replacement and revision surgery

Whether you’re a weekend golfer, an active retiree, a high school athlete or a collegiate competitor, Dr. Checketts creates a treatment plan designed around your goals. While surgery is sometimes the best option, many patients improve with nonsurgical treatments such as rehabilitation, activity modification or injections.

A Different Approach to Patient Care

As someone who underwent two heart surgeries as a child, Dr. Checketts understands what it’s like to be the patient.

“I know what it feels like to sit on the other side of the exam room,” he says. “That experience has shaped the way I care for every patient—with honesty, respect and compassion.”

During each visit, patients receive a thorough evaluation, a detailed review of their imaging and an open conversation about every treatment option. Dr. Checketts believes patients should understand not only what is recommended, but why.

His commitment doesn’t end after treatment.

“I want to build long-term relationships with my patients and continue following their progress for years,” he says. “That’s how I know I’m providing the best care possible.”

Helping Patients Get Back to What They Love

Whether your goal is returning to work, getting back on the golf course, competing on Friday nights or simply sleeping without shoulder pain, Dr. Checketts is committed to helping patients regain strength, function and confidence.

With the addition of Dr. Checketts, OSU Medicine is proud to bring advanced shoulder expertise—and compassionate, patient-centered care—to families throughout Northeast Oklahoma.
