Get to Know Dr. William Woods

For Dr. Woods, medicine wasn’t always the obvious career choice. Growing up with a father who practiced medicine and advocated for rural health in Oklahoma, he witnessed the long hours and dedication the profession demanded. “I never thought I’d become a physician,” he says. “I wasn’t sure I wanted that lifestyle.

After earning degrees in cellular and molecular biology and microbiology, he explored several career options before shadowing physicians in different specialties. That experience changed everything. He discovered a path that aligned with both his professional goals and the life he wanted to build. During residency, he also discovered a passion for teaching, which ultimately brought him to OSU Medicine.

Patients visiting Dr. Woods can expect a collaborative experience. As part of a resident teaching clinic, each patient is cared for by a team that includes a physician trainee working alongside Dr. Woods. Together, they develop a personalized care plan, discuss treatment options, and ensure patients have the opportunity to ask questions and take an active role in their health.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Woods describes himself as “a collector of hobbies.” His interests include woodworking, photography, electronics and microcontroller programming, designing custom computer keyboards, motorcycling, electric unicycling, disc jockeying and acrylic pour art. When it’s time to unwind, you’ll often find him reading fantasy and science fiction novels, with author Becky Chambers among his favorites.
