Welcome To OSU Medical Center’s Pharmacy Residency Program!

Our goal for you as an OSUMC resident is to teach you to independently function as a clinical pharmacist upon graduation. Our experienced preceptors are dedicated to your training and will facilitate your learning during your time as a resident.

Since the pharmacy residency program’s initiation in 2011, OSUMC has graduated two residents per year. Many of our residency graduates have gone on to complete PGY-2 specialty residencies in a variety of settings including ambulatory care, internal medicine, cardiology, critical care, infectious disease and HIV. Others have stayed at OSUMC to work as clinical pharmacists or have been successful at finding clinical pharmacy jobs.

We are excited about your interest in our program. Next residency year is going to be a great year as we continue to expand pharmacy’s services in our medical center. Our program has been in place since 2011, and we have had some outstanding residents that we have been able to train. Roughly half of our PGY1 residents have gone on to complete PGY2 residencies in a variety of different subjects.  Many others we’ve been fortunate enough to retain within our department and the others have all been successful in finding clinical pharmacy jobs.

Our residency is structured to provide a strong foundation in internal medicine and also has a focus in the treatment of outpatient HIV patients and in teaching/precepting. We have the unique ability to provide teaching opportunities for our residents to a variety of different healthcare professionals including: pharmacy students, medical students, and medical residents. Our pharmacy residents work closely with the medical residents at our institution and this collaborative environment serves to enhance the learning of both parties.

As you continue with your search for which residency program you feel you would match up with best, I would encourage you to think about what you would like to gain out of a residency program and what your long term goals are. We offer a variety of unique experiences but may not fit with what your goals may be. Feel free to contact myself or other preceptors or residents so that we can answer any questions you may have about the program. Residency is where you will spend the next year of your life in intense training and you want to be sure you are at a place that is a good fit for you. Thanks again for your interest.

Thank you for your interest in our PGY2 Internal Medicine program. Established in 2018, our department strives to make this residency program an environment where residents can continue to expand their knowledge and fine-tune their clinical skills.

OSUMC is focused on learning from our patients and the Internal Medicine department believes in teaching at the bedside. As a pharmacy resident, you will be standing side-by-side with the physicians during these patient encounters. Being co-sponsored by SWOSU College of Pharmacy and associated with OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine, our residents have the opportunity to co-precept pharmacy students during their APPE rotations and evaluate their formal case presentations as well as complete didactic lectures to medical students through our advanced teach certificate program.

Residency can be tough and I want to applaud you in deciding to continue your training. A good fit is essential to making the most out of the next year of your life and I have found that the OSUMC community creates a sense of belonging that feels like a family. Please feel free to contact myself or other preceptors or residents so that we can answer any questions you may have about the program.
