Hanna Fogg, D.O.: How a Personal Journey Becomes a Mission
When I was 19 years old, I received a medical diagnosis that changed my personal and professional life forever. I learned I have Type 1 Diabetes. Today, I am an endocrinologist helping other people with the diagnosis and treatment of this disease. I’ve been practicing endocrinology, the study of how hormones work in the body, since 2020 not only because of my personal story but also because the field encompasses a wide variety of conditions that include Diabetes Types 1 and 2, as well as thyroid disorders, thyroid cancer, osteoporosis and pituitary and adrenal disorders. Northeast Oklahoma is underserved in this area of medicine, and a vital reason I chose this part of the country to practice endocrinology was to increase access to care for the people who suffer from these diseases.
After growing up in a small town just south of Nashville, Tennessee, I am the first in my family to pursue a career in medicine. I obtained a Bachelor of Science, Chemistry-Biochemistry at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga, then went on to earn my medical degree from DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in my home state of Tennessee. I came to the OSU Medical Center in Tulsa for my residency training in Internal Medicine, then completed my Endocrinology, Metabolism and Genetics fellowship at the University of Kansas Hospital. Both are certified by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). In addition, I’m board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and American Board of Internal Medicine-Endocrinology and am a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology and the Endocrine Society.
This is an exciting time for endocrinology as we are improving preventive care management for diabetes. Just two years ago, the first treatment to delay the onset of Type 1 Diabetes received FDA approval. I encourage anyone with a family history of Type 1 Diabetes to be screened – especially since there are now free home test kits on the market.
I love it when my patients come to me with a list of questions, and I encourage everyone to speak up when they see their medical provider. After all, no one knows your body or could advocate for you better than you can!
Outside of the office, I love to spend time with my family and friends, football games, golf and playing with my dog, Sibo! A life dream of mine would be to attend the Super Bowl someday, so hit me up if you end up with an extra ticket!
